Buyeo County launches committee to oppose high-voltage transmission lines
Buyeo County has officially launched the ‘Buyeo County Transmission Line Response Public-Private Committee’ to systematically address the construction of ultra-high-voltage transmission lines, including the 345kV Saemangeum-Sinseosan project.
Led by the Vice County Governor, the committee includes local council members, energy system experts, and representatives from the Korea Electric Power Corporation. The group aims to protect the survival and property rights of residents while preventing the dissolution of local communities caused by potential environmental damage and population outflow.
The committee has issued a resolution demanding that the government and Korea Electric Power Corporation guarantee resident rights. They are also calling for the establishment of an ‘Energy Local Production and Local Consumption and Regional Extinction Response Body’ involving both central and local governments, as well as a ‘Chungnam Transmission Tower Joint Response Body’ to promote balanced national development and prevent the concentration of energy burdens in rural areas to meet metropolitan demand.
