Buzău County Council moves to manage major tourist attractions

The Buzău County Council has initiated procedures to take administration of three major tourist attractions: the Mud Volcanoes (Vulcanii Noroioși), the Sărata Monteoru oil mine, and the ‘Focul Viu’ protected area. Marcel Ciolacu, president of the County Council, expressed the goal of bringing the Mud Volcanoes under local administration from the National Agency for Protected Natural Areas. Additionally, the council aims to have the Buzău County Museum manage the Sărata Monteoru oil mine to enhance the local spa resort. Plans are also underway to use over 17 million lei in European funds to develop tourism on Dealul Murătoarea.

Regarding the ‘Focul Viu’ protected area, the council is pursuing land acquisition to resolve access issues caused by legal disputes between landowners and managers.

In a separate regional development focus, the Jiu Valley Destination Management Organization is highlighting the importance of preserving sites with significant historical weight, specifically the Vulcan Ossuary. The organization aims to promote responsible tourism that respects the symbolic and collective memory of the region.
