Buzău inaugurates 7.4 million euro glass recycling plant

A new glass recycling plant has been inaugurated in Buzău, Romania, representing an investment of approximately 7.4 million euros. Operated by ABS 2000, the facility has an annual processing capacity of up to 80,000 tons.

The plant is designed to process post-consumer glass, transforming it into secondary raw materials that can be reintroduced into the economic cycle for the production of new packaging. This project is noted as one of the largest recent investments in glass recycling within Romania and Southeast Europe.

The investment was supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) through the Environmental Fund Administration. According to Serghei Balica, CEO of ABS 2000 Buzău, the unit aims to strengthen the circular economy infrastructure and reduce the amount of glass sent to landfills. The company also views the project as an opportunity to enhance regional cooperation in collection, sorting, and processing between Romania, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Moldova.
