Buzău proposes Securitate background checks for honorary citizens

A municipal councilor in Buzău has initiated a draft resolution to amend the regulations regarding the title of ‘Honorary Citizen of Buzău Municipality’. The proposal, introduced by Silviu-Laurențiu Roșioru, seeks to require both current and future honorary citizens to provide legal documentation proving they did not collaborate with the communist-era Securitate.

Roșioru argues that some individuals previously granted the title may not have an unblemished past and suggests that their titles should be revoked if such ties are discovered. The draft resolution has been posted for public debate and will be submitted to the local council for approval in a future session.
