Buzz Bee Dam to Land of Canaan highway construction advances

Construction is progressing on a new four-lane highway connecting Buzz Bee Dam at Craig to Land of Canaan on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD). According to the Housing Ministry, the major infrastructure project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity along the East Bank corridor.

Last year, contracts totaling $52.5 billion were awarded for the project, which is divided into eight lots. The highway will feature medians, safety features, margin sealing, and pull-off lanes. The new section extending to Land of Canaan will cover approximately 11.3 km and will connect to the Great Diamond to Craig Highway.

Additional works are underway to extend the Ogle to Eccles four-lane highway to Providence. Future plans involve linking the Craig to Land of Canaan highway to the Ogle Highway and expanding it to create a faster route to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport via the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
