Bávaro, Dominican Republic Starts Building San Juan Pablo II Church
The Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) broke ground on the San Juan Pablo II Church in Bávaro, La Altagracia province, with an investment of RD$51.8 million. Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó led the ceremony, emphasizing that the church will serve as a place of worship and a community hub for families, youth and social activities. Governor Daisy De Óleo called the project a significant milestone for the rapidly growing tourist‑driven area.
The new parish will occupy a 1,079.40 m² site and include a main nave, altar, baptismal font, meeting hall, administrative offices, parking, restrooms, kitchen, dining and dormitory facilities, as well as modern climate‑control, lighting, security and fire‑detection systems. Designed to support religious, cultural, educational and social programs, the church aims to strengthen community values and provide a central gathering point for Bávaro residents.
