Bybit intercepts $700 million in potential crypto user losses
Bybit, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has reported intercepting over $700 million in potential user losses during the first half of 2026. According to its H1 2026 Risk & Security Report, the exchange intercepted more than 30,000 suspicious withdrawal requests, protecting approximately 20,000 users.
The security enhancements follow a significant theft of approximately $1.46 billion in digital assets in February 2025. Bybit has implemented a three-layer protection model consisting of user and account security, real-time on-chain monitoring, and AI-assisted security operations. The company reports 100% coverage for business-relevant on-chain monitoring and an average initial risk review time of 4.7 minutes.
David Zong, Head of Group Risk Control and Security at Bybit, stated that the company is using AI to strengthen risk-control capabilities while maintaining human judgment at the center of critical security decisions to combat evolving cyber threats.
