Bybit Gains Austrian EMI License to Offer Regulated Payments in Europe

Bybit Payments GmbH received an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA) on 4 August 2026. The authorisation allows the subsidiary to provide regulated e‑money and payment services – such as person‑to‑person transfers, merchant solutions, open‑banking features and future card products – through the Bybit.eu platform.

Bybit EU GmbH will continue to deliver crypto‑asset services under its separate MiCA authorisation that has been in place since May 2025. The two Austrian entities will operate under distinct regulatory permissions, but customers can access both service sets via the same platform. Bybit says the licence reduces reliance on third‑party payment infrastructure and strengthens relationships with banks and payment providers. Malta is excluded from the offering because MiCA passporting requirements have not been met.

Georg Harer, managing director of both entities, said Europe is setting a global benchmark for integrating digital assets and financial services under clear regulation. Bernhard Krick added that maintaining a clear distinction between the two regulated entities is essential for compliance.
