BYD advances solid-state battery technology with new patents and 2027 production goal

BYD is accelerating its development of next-generation solid-state battery technology, with plans to begin small-scale pilot production by 2027. The company recently filed six new patents aimed at resolving critical interface issues between solid electrolytes and electrodes, which can lead to micro-cracks and increased internal resistance during charge cycles. These patents describe a dual-electrolyte cathode architecture utilizing both halide and sulfide electrolytes to improve cycle life and thermal stability.

Technical benchmarks for BYD's developing technology include a 60 Ah pilot cell capable of approximately 400 Wh/kg energy density. The cells are designed to support 5C ultra-fast charging, potentially reaching 80% capacity in ten minutes, and are intended to maintain performance in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 120°C.

In addition to battery advancements, BYD is updating its vehicle lineup, including the release of a new generation of the Seal 07 sedan. The updated model features increased dimensions and advanced driver-assistance technologies, such as LiDAR-supported DiPilot 5.0.
