BYD and Chery Group advance hybrid propulsion technologies
Automotive manufacturers are advancing hybrid propulsion technologies through specialized engine and system architectures.
BYD is expanding its presence in Europe with its DM-i plug-in hybrid technology. This system prioritizes electric propulsion, utilizing a high-capacity battery and electric motors for daily driving, particularly in urban environments. The internal combustion engine serves as a secondary power source or generator when battery levels are low or higher power is required. This architecture is implemented across several models, including the Dolphin G DM-i, Atto 2 DM-i, and the Seal series.
Concurrently, Chery Group, through its brands Omoda and Jaecoo, has developed the 1.5 TGDI DHE (Dedicated Hybrid Engine). Produced by its engine division, Acteco, this four-cylinder engine is designed specifically for hybrid integration rather than adapting conventional designs. It features a thermal efficiency of 44.5% achieved through a high compression ratio and Deep Miller cycle technology. The engine is engineered to minimize internal friction and optimize thermal management to maintain peak efficiency.
