BYD and Volkswagen announce major vehicle recalls

Major automotive manufacturers have announced significant vehicle recalls due to safety concerns and manufacturing defects.

BYD is recalling over 210,000 vehicles. In China, approximately 183,211 Qin and Tang series models produced between 2014 and 2022 are being recalled because faulty brake pedal limit pads could crack, potentially causing brake lights to stay on and sending incorrect signals to following drivers. Additionally, BYD is recalling 32,000 Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pickups in Australia due to a risk of spare tires detaching.

In the United States, Volkswagen is recalling nearly 50,000 2025 Tiguan models. The recall stems from a software glitch in the body control module that could cause the ignition system to shut off unexpectedly while driving, potentially leading to a loss of power and airbag malfunction.

Furthermore, NIO has issued a recall for 686 Firefly electric vehicles in China produced earlier this year. The recall addresses manufacturing irregularities in the steering column torque sensor wiring, which could lead to electronic steering system failures and loss of power assistance.
