BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu Targets Global Lead in Auto Production Within Five Years

Chairman and President of BYD, Wang Chuanfu, told shareholders at the company’s annual general meeting on 9 June that BYD aims to become the world’s largest automotive manufacturer by scale within the next five years. He cited strong overseas growth, with exports up about 65 % in the first five months of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, and highlighted key markets such as Brazil, the United Kingdom and Australia. BYD currently sells roughly 4.6 million vehicles annually and ranks sixth globally, but Wang said the firm is on a solid path to exceed its 2026 overseas sales target of 1.6 million units. The strategy focuses on localisation, competitive pricing, advanced driver‑assist technology and expanding training and support networks across Europe, South America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Wang described future vehicles as “moving robotics” relying increasingly on intelligent driving systems.
