BYD Claims Multiple Wins at 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards in Australia
Chinese automaker BYD secured three top positions at the 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards. The compact Atto 1 electric hatch was named Best Affordable EV, praised for its low price of $23,990 and city‑friendly performance. The Sealion 6 mid‑size plug‑in hybrid SUV won Best Affordable PHEV SUV, offering a range of $42,990–$52,990 and a spacious, refined interior. The Shark 6 dual‑cab plug‑in hybrid finished as a close runner‑up in the Electrified Ute category.
CarExpert founder Alborz Fallah said the Atto 1 "is exactly the sort of EV that Australia needs more of – affordable, efficient and genuinely useful as a city car." The awards highlight BYD’s growing presence in the Australian market, spanning its fully electric and plug‑in hybrid line‑up.
The accolades follow BYD’s successful debut in Australia last year, where four models were finalists, and underline the brand’s strategy of offering low‑cost, high‑quality electric and hybrid vehicles to Australian consumers.
