BYD expands global EV presence with new models and charging tech
BYD is expanding its electric vehicle lineup and infrastructure globally. In China, the company's high-speed charging network has demonstrated extreme throughput, with some stations processing 74 vehicles per day via a single connector using 1.5 megawatt charging technology.
The company is also updating its entry-level models. A second-generation Seagull is entering pre-orders, featuring increased luxury elements like ambient lighting and massaging seats. In Brazil, the Dolphin Mini 2027 model has arrived with updated visual elements, including wider Pirelli tires and darkened wheels. In France, the Dolphin Surf has been updated to include a fifth seat and integrated Google software.
In a legal development in Colombia, the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio granted BYD the registration for the ‘Dolphin Mini’ trademark. This decision followed an opposition from BMW AG, which argued the name created a risk of confusion with the ‘Mini’ brand, but the regulator ruled the marks were sufficiently distinct.
