BYD Dolphin Surf interior leaks reveal Tesla-style design
Leaked images from China have revealed the redesigned interior of the upcoming BYD Dolphin Surf (also known as the BYD Seagull). The most significant change is the removal of the traditional digital instrument cluster located behind the steering wheel.
Following a design approach popularized by Tesla, BYD has consolidated all driving information into a single large central touchscreen mounted high on the console. This shift is expected to reduce manufacturing costs by eliminating an extra screen, wiring harness, and control unit. While this streamlines production for high-volume models, it may impact ergonomics for drivers who must look toward the center of the dashboard to check speed and autonomy.
Despite the move toward digital interfaces, the new interior retains a row of physical buttons below the central air vents for frequently used functions. The redesigned cabin also features a new steering wheel with more angular buttons and increased storage space in the lower central console.
