BYD expands Australian vehicle-to-grid trial with Sealion 7

BYD has expanded its partnership with Amber Electric to include the Sealion 7 in Australia’s largest residential vehicle-to-grid (V2G) trial. This follows the previous inclusion of the BYD Atto 3, making BYD the only automaker currently participating in the program.

The V2G technology allows electric vehicle owners to use their car's battery to supply electricity to their homes or export power back to the grid during periods of high demand. To encourage participation, BYD is offering a 6 percent discount on the Sealion 7 and Atto 3 for customers who commit to the trial. This discount is intended to help offset the costs of V2G hardware.

The program is supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), which recently provided an additional $13.6 million to expand the project. The initiative aims to scale up to 1,000 households, addressing a current waitlist of over 8,000 people. Participants in the program will retain their BYD battery warranty support for V2G use.
