BYD expands dealer network in Central Java amid falling Indonesian EV sales
BYD Motor Indonesia, together with dealer partner PT Bumi Hijau Motor (Haka Auto), inaugurated four new BYD dealerships in Semarang, Solo, Klaten and Magelang, Central Java. The rollout adds 3S (sales, service, spare parts) facilities and aims to improve consumer access to BYD’s electric models such as the Seal, Sealion 7, Atto 3, Dolphin and the dual‑mode M6 DM. BYD’s Indonesia chief executive Eagle Zhao noted that more than 91,000 BYD electric vehicles have been sold nationally, representing over 40% of the country’s EV market, with more than 1,600 units operating in Central Java.
Meanwhile, Indonesian electric‑vehicle market data from Gaikindo shows a sharp decline in overall BEV sales in May 2026, falling from about 14,800 units in April to 9,290 units. BYD’s sales slipped dramatically, dropping out of the top‑five brands. Its best‑selling model, the Sealion, moved only 258 units, while the M6 MPV recorded 197 units. Competitor Jaecoo J5 BEV (Chery) led the market with 2,943 units, followed by Geely EX2 and Wuling Eksion EV. The shift highlights a competitive reshuffle as BYD seeks to sustain its market presence through expanded dealer coverage.
