BYD expands European market with new plug‑in hybrid and eyes Formula 1 entry
Chinese automaker BYD continues to dominate Spain's plug‑in hybrid segment, with its Seal U DM‑i and Atto 2 DM‑i leading sales in 2026. The company has launched the Dolphin G DM‑i, a compact PHEV offering over 1,040 km combined range, a starting price of €18,700 and up to 105 km of electric‑only driving, targeting buyers who prefer a non‑SUV vehicle.
At the Monaco Grand Prix, BYD executive Stella Li confirmed the brand is studying a possible Formula 1 entry, citing discussions with Stefano Domenicali. She said the sport would serve as a global showcase for BYD’s technology and ambition to become “one of the most admirable brands in the automotive industry,” while noting the company remains young and is still evaluating the technical and financial conditions for participation.
