BYD expands global production and upgrades Seal 06 with LiDAR

BYD is implementing technical upgrades and significant workforce expansions as part of its global growth strategy. The company has introduced an updated Seal 06 sedan, which features the new ‘God’s Eye B’ driver assistance system utilizing LiDAR technology. This update follows a decline in sales for the Seal model family, which saw a 15.6 percent decrease in units sold during the first seven months of the year.

Simultaneously, BYD is aggressively expanding its production capacity by recruiting over 9,000 new employees in China for its component and vehicle manufacturing plants. This recruitment drive occurs as several European automakers are announcing mass layoffs.

BYD’s international sales have seen rapid growth, with overseas vehicle sales increasing by 70 percent in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. To support this momentum and mitigate trade risks, the company is localizing production through global facilities, including an existing plant in Brazil and a new European manufacturing site currently under construction in Szeged, Hungary.
