BYD expands Brazilian production capacity to 600,000 vehicles
BYD is advancing its industrial expansion in Brazil by requesting licenses to double its annual production capacity to 600,000 vehicles. The company is currently in the final stages of infrastructure testing for its stamping, welding, and painting facilities at its Camaçari complex in Bahia.
By early 2027, BYD aims to exceed the 50% local component requirement, a move designed to meet regulatory standards and facilitate regional exports. The company has already invested over R$ 5.5 billion in the Brazilian plant and currently employs approximately 9,000 people, with plans to reach 10,000 direct employees by the end of 2026.
In addition to manufacturing growth, BYD is diversifying its product lineup in the Brazilian market. This includes the arrival of the Denza Z, a high-performance electric super sports car, and the upcoming launch of a plug-in hybrid version of the Dolphin hatch, which will utilize flex-fuel technology.
