BYD expands into Canada and AI robotics as it broadens global footprint
Chinese electric‑vehicle maker BYD is preparing a consumer EV launch in Canada by posting more than ten senior corporate positions in Toronto. The roles cover commercial strategy, network development, marketing, product and sales management, operations, after‑sales, finance, legal and human‑resources functions, with salaries ranging from $90,000 to $135,000. The hiring drive follows a recent Canada‑China deal that cut import tariffs on BYD cars to 6.1 % and caps annual volumes at 49,000 units, signalling a serious push to establish a nationwide sales and service network.
At the same time BYD is stepping into the artificial‑intelligence robotics arena, aiming to compete with Tesla and XPeng. Leveraging its battery expertise, large‑scale manufacturing and supply‑chain capabilities, BYD plans to develop humanoid and industrial robots for factories, warehouses, hospitals and homes. The company views robotics as the next growth frontier after electric vehicles, positioning itself as a potential rival to Tesla’s Optimus project.
