BYD prepares second-generation Seagull EV with major upgrades

BYD is preparing to launch the second generation of its Seagull electric vehicle, a model known in various markets as the Dolphin Surf or Dolphin Mini. The upcoming overhaul introduces significant mechanical and interior upgrades to the entry-level hatchback.

Mechanically, the new model shifts to a rear-wheel-drive architecture, replacing the previous front-motor setup. This change utilizes a 95 kW (127 hp) motor produced in Zhengzhou and incorporates a multi-link independent rear suspension. The shift also creates a front trunk (frunk) with an estimated capacity of 94 liters, a rare feature for this price segment.

The interior will feature an immersive cockpit with ambient lighting, power-adjustable front seats with massage functions, and a redesigned center console. While the traditional instrument cluster is being replaced by a larger central infotainment screen capable of split-screen views, the system will still display essential driving data. Additional features include improved rear legroom and the potential use of magnetic buttons.
