BYD expands production capacity in Brazil and launches new Seagull model
BYD is pursuing a significant expansion in Brazil, with its local unit applying for permits to double annual factory capacity to 600,000 vehicles. Senior Vice President Alexandre Baldy stated that facilities for pressing, welding, and painting are nearing completion. The company aims for local component content to exceed 50 percent by 2027.
In China, BYD has launched an updated second-generation Seagull model featuring Flash Charging technology. This version can charge from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes on compatible configurations. The model includes technical upgrades such as rear-wheel drive, multi-link rear suspension, and power outputs between 85 and 95 kW. While the Chinese entry price is approximately 8,800 euros, the availability and pricing for the European market remain to be confirmed.
BYD shares recently saw a 4.4 percent increase in Hong Kong, driven by a broader recovery in the electric vehicle and technology sectors rather than a single corporate announcement.
