BYD identifies geopolitics as primary hurdle to global expansion
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li stated that geopolitics is the primary challenge to the company’s global expansion. Speaking at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore, Li noted that the lack of clarity and stability in certain markets makes investment difficult.
Due to these complexities, BYD has decided not to sell passenger cars in the United States for the time being. The company is also navigating trade barriers, such as the 17 percent additional tariff imposed by the European Union on Chinese-made electric vehicles. To mitigate these risks, BYD is shifting production outside of China, having already launched a plant in Hungary and seeking additional European locations.
Despite these hurdles, BYD maintains an ambitious goal to become the world’s largest automaker within five years. Li also highlighted that the company views its Hong Kong-listed stock as “super undervalued” and confirmed that Nvidia remains a strong chip partner.
