The defect involves the spare wheel lifter assembly. A manufacturing issue or incorrect installation can cause abnormal wear on the support cable, potentially leading the spare tire to detach while the vehicle is in motion. BYD warned that this poses a serious risk of injury or death to drivers and other road users.

As a remedy, BYD will replace the existing wire support cable with a sturdier chain. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes and will be provided free of charge. Affected owners are advised to contact their local dealership and, in the interim, remove the spare wheel from the vehicle for safety.
