BYD Korea addresses repair cost and service network concerns
BYD Korea has issued a formal response to consumer concerns regarding accident repair costs, parts availability, and the adequacy of its service network. Addressing recent online controversies, the company clarified that high repair estimates for certain vehicles, such as the Sealion 7, often stem from internal structural damage that is not visible on the exterior.
To ensure transparency, BYD Korea disclosed that its official service centers charge an average hourly labor rate of approximately 115,000 KRW, though individual dealers maintain independent pricing authority. The company utilizes the global 'Audatex' program to calculate repair estimates based on standardized manufacturer data and labor times.
Regarding logistics, BYD stated it maintains a vertical integration structure to manage parts costs and keeps essential components in domestic warehouses. In cases where parts are unavailable locally, the company utilizes air freight to expedite repairs. To support customers during extended repair periods, loaner vehicle services are provided.
Currently, BYD Korea operates 20 service centers with 92 work bays, capable of handling up to 600 vehicles daily. The company plans to expand this network to 26 centers by the end of the year to improve regional accessibility and maintenance capacity.
