BYD unveils ETT 44 electric heavy-duty truck and targets 2027 for solid-state batteries
BYD is expanding its presence in the electric vehicle sector with significant announcements regarding heavy-duty transport and next-generation battery technology. At the IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, the company unveiled the ETT 44, an electric 4x2 heavy-duty tractor designed for the European market. The vehicle is capable of a 44-tonne payload and features a 651-kWh Blade battery, offering a range of up to 600 kilometers. To support long-haul logistics, the ETT 44 utilizes Megawatt Charging Standard (MCS) technology, allowing it to charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes at charging speeds exceeding 1.5 MW.
In addition to commercial vehicles, BYD is advancing its passenger car lineup. The 2027 BYD Yuan Pro (also known as the Atto 2) has been updated in the Chinese market with a larger 51.13-kWh battery, increasing its range to 501 km under the CLTC cycle.
Looking toward future technology, BYD confirmed it aims to launch its first vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries by 2027. This technology, which promises higher energy density and improved safety over current lithium-ion batteries, is expected to reach full-scale mass production by 2030. This move places BYD in direct competition with other manufacturers like Tesla, Geely, and CATL in the race to commercialize solid-state energy solutions.
