BYD launches Dolphin G DM-i, first plug‑in hybrid B‑segment car in Europe

Chinese automaker BYD unveiled the Dolphin G DM-i, its inaugural plug‑in hybrid model in the B‑segment. The vehicle combines a 1.5‑liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering up to 156 kW (212 hp) and a total driving range exceeding 1,000 km, of which more than 100 km can be covered on electric power alone. A larger 18.3 kWh LFP Blade battery enables up to 105 km of pure‑electric travel under WLTP, with a 40 km electric range in the base version.

The Dolphin G DM-i is built at BYD’s plant in Szeged, Hungary, and will be sold through BYD’s expanding German dealer network, which aims to reach 350 locations by the end of 2026. The compact hatchback is 4.16 m long, sits between the VW Polo and Golf, and offers five‑seat accommodation with a 425‑liter trunk that can be expanded to 1,225 liters. Inside, the car features an 8.8‑inch digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen available in 10.1‑ or 12.8‑inch sizes, and optional amenities such as wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a head‑up display, and a 360° camera.
