BYD launches Dolphin G DM-i plug‑in hybrid in Europe with German price as low as €18,990

Chinese automaker BYD introduced the Dolphin G DM-i, a new plug‑in hybrid built for the European B‑segment. Production will take place at BYD's new factory in Hungary, with the first deliveries expected in autumn 2026.

In Germany the model is advertised at €28,990 before incentives; after applying local subsidies and commercial discounts the price can fall to €18,990, making it significantly cheaper than BYD's current Atto 2 DM‑i and positioning it as a potential market‑leading low‑cost plug‑in hybrid in Greece and other EU countries.

The Dolphin G DM-i combines a 1.5‑litre gasoline engine with BYD’s Super Hybrid DM‑5.0 system. Depending on the battery size, the vehicle offers 40 km (7.42 kWh) or 105 km (18.3 kWh) of electric range under WLTP, and a combined driving range exceeding 1,000 km. Power output reaches up to 212 hp (approximately 209 hp in some trims). Technical highlights include a full‑range thermal management system for the Blade Battery, a 12.8‑inch touchscreen with Google integration, wireless phone charging, head‑up display, heated seats, and a Vehicle‑to‑Load (V2L) function that can power external devices.

The compact dimensions (4.16 m length) and a 425‑litre boot (expandable to 1,225 litre) give the Dolphin G DM‑i roomier practicality than many rivals such as the Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo.
