BYD launches Dolphin G plug‑in hybrid hatchback in Europe

Chinese automaker BYD introduced the Dolphin G DM‑i, the first B‑segment plug‑in hybrid (PHEV) hatchback for the European market. The model combines a 1.5‑litre gasoline engine (95 PS) with a 163 PS electric motor, delivering up to 212 PS in higher‑trim versions. Two battery packs are offered: a 7.42 kWh unit giving an electric range of about 40 km, and an 18.3 kWh Blade LFP pack delivering up to 105 km on electric power alone. Total driving range reaches 1,019–1,040 km, with fuel consumption rated at roughly 4.3–4.5 L per 100 km (1.4 L/100 km under test conditions). Charging times vary: the smaller battery accepts up to 3.3 kW AC (full charge in ~2.8 h), while the larger pack can take 6.6 kW AC and supports 39 kW DC fast charging (10‑80 % in 26 min). Performance figures include 0‑100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. The hatchback measures 4.16 m in length, has a 2.61 m wheelbase and offers a 425‑litre boot. Priced from €18,700, the Dolphin G is already on BYD’s Spanish dealer network, with orders opening now and first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of the year.
