BYD launches Europe’s first Flash Charge station in Bologna, targeting 300 sites in Italy by 2027

Chinese EV maker BYD inaugurated Europe’s first Flash Charge ultra‑fast charging station in Bologna, Italy. The station can deliver up to 1,500 kW (grid draw limited to 100 kW) and, using renewable sources and the company’s BESS, can charge a vehicle to 70 % in five minutes and to a full 97 % in nine minutes.

BYD announced a €2 billion investment to install more than 3,000 Flash Charge points across Europe by 2027, with Italy playing a central role. The Italian rollout foresees 300 stations by the end of next year, open to all brands via the CCS2 connector. The debut coincided with the start of the Marco Polo Drive, a 15,000‑km journey from Rome to Hong Kong that will showcase the technology on long‑distance routes.

Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice‑president, called the system “a game changer” that moves electrification from future to present, while Diego Pareschi, head of BYD’s Battery division, highlighted the rapid charging capability and the use of solar energy and battery storage to support the high‑power output.
