BYD launches luxury Seal 08 sedan as plug‑in hybrid and BEV, receives over 100,000 orders

Chinese automaker BYD has begun sales of the new premium sedan Seal 08, the flagship model of its Ocean series. The car is offered in both plug‑in hybrid (DM‑i) and fully electric versions, featuring 800‑volt architecture, advanced driver‑assist systems, and a high‑level interior. Prices start at 196,900 yuan (≈ 23,400 EUR) for the base model and reach 239,900 yuan for the top‑spec all‑wheel‑drive electric variant.

Within roughly 30 hours of opening orders, BYD recorded more than 65,000 reservations, and the figure quickly exceeded 100,000 confirmed orders. The launch coincided with the rollout of BYD’s 17‑millionth new‑energy vehicle from the production line, underscoring the brand’s rapid growth in the premium electric‑vehicle segment.

The electric version can travel up to 905 km (CLTC) on a single charge and supports ultra‑fast charging that adds roughly 400 km of range in five minutes. The plug‑in hybrid combines a 1.5‑litre turbo‑charged engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 400 kW (536 hp) and a total range of about 1,660 km. The model’s equipment list includes rear‑wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, soft‑close doors, and a suite of driver‑assist technologies.
