BYD launches RACCO electric mini-van in Japan
BYD Auto Japan has launched the RACCO, a new electric mini-van (kei car) specifically developed for the Japanese market. The vehicle targets the highly competitive high-roof kei van segment, currently dominated by models like the Honda N-BOX, Suzuki Spacia, and Daihatsu Tanto.
The RACCO features BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery technology, offering two versions: a Standard model with a range of over 200km and a Long Range model exceeding 300km. The vehicle is designed with a focus on family utility, including dual electric sliding doors, high-quality interior materials, and a spacious cargo area capable of accommodating a B-type stroller without folding.
Pricing for the RACCO ranges from approximately 2.14 million to 2.49 million yen. After applying the 150,000 yen CEV subsidy, the effective starting price is roughly 1.99 million yen, positioning it competitively against gasoline-powered alternatives. Since its release on July 28, the model has seen significant interest, surpassing 1,000 orders within its first two weeks.
