BYD launches Shark plug‑in hybrid pickup in Europe

Chinese automaker BYD introduced its first pickup, the Shark, to the European market. The Shark is a plug‑in hybrid off‑road vehicle that combines a 1.5‑litre turbo gasoline engine with two electric motors—one per axle—delivering a total output of 436 hp and 650 Nm of torque. It can travel up to 90 km on electric power alone and achieve a combined WLTP range of 675 km, with an official fuel consumption of 3.5 L/100 km.

The pickup offers a payload of 2,500 kg, a towing capacity of 2,500 kg, and a cargo volume of 1,200 L. Its dimensions (5.46 m long, 3.26 m wheelbase) and off‑road features such as intelligent traction modes, independent double‑triangle suspension, and hill‑descent control target both professional and leisure use. Inside, the cabin includes a 10.25‑inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6‑inch central touchscreen, and heated/ventilated front seats. Power comes from BYD’s 32.2 kWh Blade Battery, integrated via Cell‑to‑Chassis technology, which also enhances structural rigidity.
