BYD launches updated ATTO 3 EX electric SUV in Japan

BYD Auto Japan has launched the significantly updated BYD ATTO 3 EX, a mid-size electric SUV. The new model features a major overhaul of its powertrain and battery capacity, moving from a front-wheel-drive setup to a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration for the standard model.

The updated battery capacity has increased from 58.56kWh to 74.88kWh using BYD’s proprietary ‘Blade Battery’ technology. This allows the RWD model to achieve a WLTC driving range of up to 620km, while a newly introduced all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant offers a range of 550km. The AWD model provides high performance with a system output of 330kW and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.0 seconds.

Technological improvements include the ‘Cell to Body’ (CTB) structure for enhanced rigidity and safety, alongside upgraded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). New convenience features include a 95L front trunk (frunk) and a 4.5L onboard heating and cooling compartment in the AWD model. Prices in Japan start at 4,378,000 yen for the RWD model and 4,873,000 yen for the AWD model.
