Yangwang develops ultra-luxury sedan to rival Rolls-Royce

BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, is developing a new flagship executive sedan designed to compete with high-end models such as the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Maybach S-Class. The vehicle, currently referred to by the internal code name ‘HU’, has been spotted undergoing testing in China.

Key features expected to include rear-hinged ‘suicide’ doors, a LiDAR sensor for advanced driver assistance (DiPilot 600), and a massive wheelbase likely exceeding 5.5 meters. The sedan may also utilize the e4 quad-motor platform, potentially delivering over 1,000 horsepower.

A significant technical highlight is the possibility that this model will be the first from BYD to feature solid-state batteries, aligning with the company’s roadmap for small-batch production of such technology by 2027. Additionally, the vehicle may support megawatt-level ultra-fast charging via BYD’s Flash Charging technology. While high-end versions may feature solid-state cells, standard versions might utilize the latest Blade LFP batteries.
