BYD Seal 08 flagship sedan draws 65,000 orders in first 30 hours
Chinese automaker BYD launched its flagship electric sedan, the Seal 08, on 2 June 2026. The model is offered in pure‑electric (EV) and plug‑in‑hybrid (PHEV) versions, all starting at 196,900 yuan (about $29,000). Built on an 800 V platform, the sedan supports BYD’s Flash‑Charging system, which can add roughly 400 km of range in five minutes, and it accelerates from 0‑100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.
Within just over 30 hours of the launch, data compiled by BYD researcher Andy Ding showed about 65,000 locked‑in orders. Around 40,000 of these were blind orders placed before the price was announced, with more than 25,000 additional orders logged after the sale opened. Over 65 % of the orders were for the pure‑electric version, and the all‑wheel‑drive (AWD) model proved the most popular.
The Seal 08 measures 5.15 m long, 1.999 m wide, and sits on a 3.03 m wheelbase. Standard equipment includes a dual‑chamber air‑suspension system, rear‑wheel steering, LiDAR‑aided ADAS (God’s Eye B), a 15.6‑inch central infotainment screen, a 26‑inch AR head‑up display, and zero‑gravity front seats with ventilation and massage. Production capacity is limited to roughly 8,000 units per month, creating a 2‑3‑month delivery wait for popular trims.
