BYD expands global sales, launches new models and reshapes product lineup

Chinese automaker BYD is strengthening its market position worldwide. In Poland, the company captured a 15 % share of the plug‑in hybrid segment in the first half of 2026, with the SEAL U DM‑i becoming the best‑selling PHEV and the ATTO 2 DM‑i ranking among the top ten. BYD also introduced the Sealion 5 DM‑i hybrid SUV in Poland, featuring an 18.3 kWh battery that delivers up to 120 km of electric range and a combined fuel consumption of 5.5 L/100 km, priced at 136 500 zł.

Globally, BYD overtook Tesla in the second quarter of 2026, selling 557,090 battery‑electric vehicles versus Tesla’s 480,126, a 16 % lead. The company’s overall BEV sales for the first half of the year reached 867,479 units, maintaining a lead over Tesla’s 838,149.

Product updates include a Dark‑Gold paint option for the luxury Denza D9 van in China, raising the top‑trim price to about €64,500 while keeping power output (up to 550 PS) and range unchanged. Conversely, BYD announced the withdrawal of the Sealion 7 electric SUV from the Chinese market despite more than 215,000 units sold, shifting production focus to Europe, Australia and other export markets where demand and margins are higher.

The Chinese EV market continues to expand, with 43 million NEVs on the road at the end of 2025 and export volumes rising 88 % to Europe in early 2026.
