BYD plans European electric coach launch for 2026 and 2027

BYD intends to expand its European electric vehicle portfolio by introducing battery-electric coaches. The company plans to debut a model specifically designed for the United Kingdom market in 2026. This vehicle is being developed as a dedicated model for the UK rather than an adaptation of existing international products.

Following the UK launch, BYD aims to enter the German, Austrian, and Swiss markets in 2027. Reports indicate the company is targeting a 12-metre model with a range of at least 600 kilometres, potentially followed by a 15-metre three-axle version. Production for these European models is reportedly planned at BYD’s facility in Komárom, Hungary.

While BYD has experience testing electric coaches in Germany, such as with FlixBus in 2018, the company noted that insufficient charging infrastructure remains a primary obstacle to market development in Europe. The electric coach segment currently faces high technical demands, including long daily driving distances and high-speed motorway requirements.
