BYD Plans to Sell Humanoid Robots Through Global Car Dealership Network

Chinese automaker BYD confirmed it is developing a consumer‑focused humanoid robot and intends to market the device through its worldwide network of vehicle dealers. Executive vice‑president Stella Li explained that the company’s expertise in automotive software, hardware and artificial intelligence can be readily transferred to robotics, stating, “Automotive software is very complex and easy for us to transfer to robots.” BYD also aims to create an open robot platform to enable collaborations with other manufacturers.

At the same time, China’s rapidly expanding humanoid‑robot sector is spawning educational “robot tourism” programmes that let students train on and interact with the technology. Facilities such as the Shijingshan Data‑Robot Training Centre, the Hangzhou embodied‑robot experience park and Shenzhen’s EngineAI Robotics hub are drawing large numbers of youths, reflecting the industry’s annual growth of over 50% and a market projection of more than 1 trillion yuan by 2035.
