BYD pledges Hungarian workforce for Szeged EV plant

Chinese electric‑vehicle maker BYD announced that the majority of jobs at its new factory in Szeged will be filled by Hungarian workers. The company said the plant will employ almost 800 locals as production ramps up, despite having previously obtained a permit for up to ten‑thousand guest workers. Hungarian officials noted that the prior government had pledged substantial financial support for the investment. BYD emphasized that all hiring will comply with Hungarian and EU legislation and that it is launching recruitment and training programmes in cooperation with the government and relevant authorities.

The company also clarified that the foreign‑worker quota relates only to the construction and installation phases and has not been fully used. BYD reiterated its commitment to work closely with Hungarian agencies to develop a skilled domestic workforce for the automotive sector.
