BYD prepares launch of larger Great Seagull electric hatchback
BYD is preparing to launch a new generation of its compact electric vehicle line, specifically the model known in China as the Great Seagull (or Da Haiou). Recent unmasked images and regulatory filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveal a significant increase in dimensions compared to the current Seagull and Dolphin Mini models.
The new model will feature a length of approximately 4.20 meters, a width of 1.81 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.65 meters, positioning it closer to the B-segment hatchbacks. Technological upgrades include the introduction of a LiDAR sensor on the roof to support advanced driver assistance systems, such as the “God’s Eye B” technology.
Mechanical updates include an electric motor producing 129 hp, an increase from the previous 75 hp, with a top speed of 150 km/h. Battery options include 30 kWh and 39.2 kWh capacities, offering estimated ranges between 320 km and 420 km under the CLTC cycle. The new model is expected to coexist with existing generations in various markets, including a projected arrival in Brazil around 2028.
