BYD prepares launch of second-generation Seagull electric hatchback
BYD is preparing to launch the second generation of its affordable Seagull electric hatchback in China, with an official premiere expected on October 20. The new model features significant architectural updates, including increased dimensions: a length of 4205 mm, a width of 1810 mm, a height of 1570 mm, and an extended wheelbase of 2650 mm.
Key technical upgrades include the addition of a LiDAR sensor on the roof, suggesting enhanced driver assistance functions. The vehicle is expected to utilize a second-generation LFP-based Blade Battery with flash-charging support. It is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor from Zhengzhou BYD Auto Co., Ltd., delivering 95 kW (approximately 127–129 hp).
The interior has been redesigned with a larger central touchscreen, a more restrained dashboard, and a mix of digital displays and physical buttons. The car will also offer improved cargo capacity, with up to 1,380 liters of space when rear seats are folded, plus a 94-liter front storage compartment. Blind pre-orders for the model have already commenced.
