BYD Racco achieves 1,000 orders in Japan within two weeks
BYD's new compact electric vehicle (EV), the Racco, has achieved significant early success in Japan, surpassing 1,000 orders within just two weeks of its July 28, 2026, launch. The model is a 'kei car' featuring a super-tall wagon design and electric sliding doors, catering to popular Japanese consumer preferences. Data shows that 80% of orders were for the top-tier 'RACCO 300Premium' grade, and 37.5% of buyers are purchasing the vehicle as an additional car rather than a replacement.
The Racco offers two battery variants: a 22.4 kWh option with a 210 km range and a 35.84 kWh option providing up to 320 km (WLTC). It also features Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) capabilities, allowing for continuous updates via Over-The-Air (OTA) technology.
Following its Japanese debut, there are strong indications that BYD intends to bring the Racco to the Indonesian market. The vehicle is expected to compete in the compact segment with an estimated price range of Rp 200-300 million.
