BYD Racco electric kei car secures 1,000 orders in Japan within two weeks

BYD has achieved a significant milestone in the Japanese automotive market with its new electric kei car, the Racco. Within two weeks of its July 28 launch, the vehicle secured over 1,000 orders, meeting the company's initial target and marking the fastest sales pace for any BYD model in Japan.

The Racco is specifically designed for the Japanese market, competing in the popular kei car segment traditionally dominated by local manufacturers like Honda, Suzuki, and Daihatsu. The vehicle is available in three variants: the entry-level 200, the 300 Plus, and the top-tier 300 Premium. Notably, the 300 Premium trim accounted for 80% of all orders, indicating strong consumer interest in higher range and better equipment.

Technical specifications include a range of up to 320 kilometers for higher trims using LFP batteries and support for CHAdeMO fast charging. The vehicle also features practical elements for urban environments, such as electric sliding side doors and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capabilities. BYD aims to reach 10,000 orders for the Racco by the end of 2026.
