BYD recalls 183,000 vehicles in China over brake pedal risk

BYD is recalling more than 183,000 vehicles in China due to a safety risk involving the brake pedal limiter. The recall, announced by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), affects various models, primarily within the Tang and Qin series.

The defect stems from manufacturing abnormalities in the materials used for the brake pedal limiter. Over time or under extreme conditions, the material may crack, deteriorate, or detach. This issue could cause brake lights to remain illuminated even when the driver is not pressing the pedal, potentially sending false signals to following drivers and creating a traffic safety hazard.

The recall includes approximately 58,026 Tang models, 77,846 Tang DM models, 7,023 Tang EV models, and 40,316 Qin sedan models. BYD will replace the faulty parts with an improved version free of charge through authorized service centers. The company plans to notify affected owners via mail, telephone, and SMS.
