BYD recalls over 180,000 vehicles in China due to brake defect

BYD is recalling over 180,000 vehicles in China due to a technical defect in the brake pedal assembly. The recall, announced by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), affects the Qin sedan and Tang SUV series produced between 2014 and 2022.

The defect involves a brake pedal stop that may crack or detach over time. This issue can cause the brake lights to remain illuminated continuously, even when the driver is not pressing the pedal. Regulators noted that constant brake light activation is dangerous as it can confuse and mislead following drivers.

The recall includes approximately 58,026 Tang SUVs, 77,846 Tang DM models, 7,023 Tang EV units, and 40,316 Qin sedans. BYD has committed to replacing the faulty components free of charge. The affected units were manufactured specifically for the Chinese market and are not reported to be sold or assembled in Indonesia.
