BYD launches Blade Battery and 8‑in‑1 EV propulsion for Europe
Chinese automaker BYD is promoting its vertically integrated electric‑vehicle technology, featuring the Blade Battery and an 8‑in‑1 electric propulsion system. The Blade Battery uses LiFePO₄ (LFP) cells that omit nickel and cobalt, offering up to 3,000 charge cycles, an eight‑year or 250,000‑km warranty, and a design that integrates the battery into the vehicle structure via Cell‑to‑Body (CTB) technology.
The 8‑in‑1 propulsion system and the e‑Platform 3.0 are deployed across BYD’s full electric lineup sold in Europe, aiming to balance safety, durability and space efficiency. Safety tests, including a nail‑penetration test, showed the Blade Battery remains below 60 °C and does not ignite or emit smoke, contrasting with more volatile NMC chemistries. While LFP cells have lower energy density (around 180 Wh/kg) than NMC, BYD emphasizes the battery’s stability and longevity.
