BYD Sealion 08 receives 12,000 orders within 24 hours of launch

BYD has seen significant initial interest in its new Sealion 08 SUV, which recorded over 12,000 orders within 24 hours of its launch in China. Part of the Ocean Series, the vehicle is available in eight versions, including both pure electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The Sealion 08 features a maximum power output of nearly 500 horsepower and a driving range of up to 900 km. Pricing for the model ranges from 229,900 to 279,900 yuan.

Technologically, the Sealion 08 is equipped with the God's Eye 5.0 intelligent driving support platform and lidar sensors, enabling features such as automated parking and urban navigation. The interior utilizes the Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, offering 5 or 6-seat configurations, with higher-end versions including business-class second-row seats and integrated entertainment screens.

In other markets, BYD is expanding its presence with models like the Sealion 5 DM-i. This SUV measures 4,738 mm in length, positioning it between competitors like the Hyundai Tucson and the Škoda Kodiaq. While the vehicle features a minimalist digital cockpit and a large 12.8-inch infotainment screen, user experience with certain software functions like climate control and radio settings has been noted as requiring adjustment.
