BYD secures contract extension for São Paulo Line 17-Gold monorail

The São Paulo Metro has extended its contract with the BYD SkyRail São Paulo consortium for the Line 17-Gold monorail. This contract amendment, known as Addendum No. 06, extends the agreement's validity from September 18, 2026, to April 28, 2027, with the work cycle continuing through September 2027.

The extension follows the delivery of the 14th and final train, completing the rolling stock supply. Technical teams are now focused on dynamic integration tests and control system verification. These tests utilize a “carousel” methodology, where multiple trains circulate simultaneously to ensure communication between vehicles, infrastructure response, and the reliability of the automated traffic system. Large-scale testing is expected to begin in early October.

Line 17-Gold is a strategic project designed to connect Congonhas Airport directly to São Paulo’s existing metro and metropolitan train networks. While the project has faced previous civil work delays, it is currently in the testing phase as it awaits an official date for the commencement of commercial passenger operations.
